Panthers Wrocław concluded the 2023 season in sixth place in Europe, making it to the playoffs of the European League of Football. The Wrocław team had an impressive season, recording excellent statistics and earning nominations for league awards.
Panthers shine in statistics
Dawid Brzozowski was named the Best Running Back of the regular season in the European League of Football. In 11 games, he rushed for a total of 1,116 yards, averaging 101.5 yards per game. The Panthers Wrocław running back scored a total of 12 touchdowns and became the first national player in the history of European competitions to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in a single season.
Leading the kickers' ranking was Jakub Ałdaś, who scored a total of 74 points during the regular season, with an 86.21% success rate - the highest in the league. It's worth noting that this was Ałdaś's first season as an American football player in his life; he was previously a soccer player.
American wide receiver Tony Tate also made it to the top of the statistics. Despite missing a few games due to injury towards the end of the season, he managed to score 16 touchdowns throughout the season, ranking second in the league in this regard. In addition, he gained 895 receiving yards, placing fifth in the entire ELF competition.
Another standout player in the league was A.J. Wentland. The American recorded an impressive 112 tackles during the regular season, playing in only nine games, which ranks him third in this statistic. However, he recorded more than half of them while playing for the Leipzig Kings before transferring to Panthers Wrocław.
Wrocław players nominated
Additionally, four Panthers Wrocław players have also been nominated for individual awards: American Tony Tate in the category of offensive player of the year, the mentioned Dawid Brzozowski as homegrown of the year, Kacper Jaszewski - the team's primary wide receiver - as offensive rookie of the year, and Timi Nuikka - a young Finnish linebacker - as defensive rookie of the year.
The winners will be announced after the conclusion of the European League of Football season, following the grand finale on September 24th in Duisburg, Germany. The championship contenders include Stuttgart Surge, Vienna Vikings, Rhein Fire, and Frankfurt Galaxy. The game can be watched on Polsat sports channels and the league's streaming platform.
