Panthers inaugurated the season of the ELF in great style. After an extremely exciting match, the Leipzig Kings 34:27 was defeated at the Olympic Stadium. This time the Panthers will go to Germany to play against Stuttgart Surge. It can be of great importance as an intergroup game.
Although it cannot be said that the inaugural match against Leipzig Kings was easy, the most important thing is the victory and great emotions that the Panthers gave to over three thousand fans gathered at the Olympic Stadium in Wrocław and those in front of TV screens. The Wrocław team deprived the footballers from Leipzig of their dreams of winning in the last seconds of the game, by tearing the ball from them, running with it into the goal area and setting the score at 34:27. As Jakub Samel, the Head Coach of Panthers Wrocław, stated after the game:
- We won and this is definitely the most important thing, but the game showed how much work is ahead of us. The defense and special teams played a great game, but on the offensive side we had too big fluctuations in form. We played some actions sensational, and then we made very big mistakes. We have to correct it and we need to do it as soon as possible. Immediately after the game, we started video analysis and draw conclusions. We have the first away meeting ahead of us, and this is always a more difficult task.
Thanks to a spectacular victory over the team from Leipzig, Panthers Wrocław and Hamburg Sea Devils were at the top of the Northern Conference table. This is the first step in the race for the title of European Champions.
The next rivals of Panthers Wrocław will be the German Stuttgart Surge. Both teams have never faced a direct duel, but it will be Wroclaw players who will play on the fields in Germany as favorites. The team from Stuttgart lost their first game high, losing to Barcelona Dragons 9:38 at their own stadium.
During this match, Surge's offense had huge problems moving the ball forward. Next Sunday, an extremely difficult challenge awaits them as well, because in the defensive formation in the last game, the team from Wrocław showed their best side. If the Panthers play defense at a level that fans are used to, and give their quarterback Justice Hansen enough time to launch the receivers corps, then they should add another victory to their achievements - especially valuable, because with rivals outside their group.
- There are no easy opponents in the European League of Football, so we never underestimate our rivals. Despite their defeat, Surge remain a strong team that proved a year ago that it can surprise even stronger teams. However, we have a complete and versatile team, which is why I am convinced that next Sunday we will take the next step towards the play-off phase and provide fans with another dose of great sports emotions at the best European edition! - convinces Michał Latoś, President of the Management Board of Panthers Wrocław.
The away game between Panthers Wrocław and Stuttgart Surge will take place next Sunday (June,12th) at 15.00 (3PM cet). Polish fans will be able to watch this match live on Polsat Sport Extra. The Wrocław team will play their next home game on June,26th.
