Panthers Lacrosse after the first PLLK tournament

The Polish Lacrosse League Women's Tournament in Katowice is behind us. As part of the second round of league games, the Panthers Lacrosse players played two planned matches - in the first one they faced the current national champions - the Poznań Hussars Ladies team.

The tournament did not start perfectly for the Panthers - a wave of injuries meant that the girls joined both games in a weakened squad. Due to injuries, the Panthers were able to start a fight only in the first quarter of the match against the current Champions. After a promising start, the opponents smoothly took a few-goal lead, which they did not give up until the end of the match. Let us remind you that PLLK games are played in an eight-person system, and our bench turned out to be definitely too short. After an hour of a very fierce game, the game ended with the score 21: 6, and the Panthers had to recognize the superiority of the Polish Champions team. For those who had the opportunity to watch the match live at the stadium in Chorzów, it was certainly not a one-sided spectacle.

The next meeting of the day, our girls played against the team of Walkiria Katowice. Unfortunately, bad luck does not leave the lacrosse section and after the first few minutes of the match another player suffers an injury. The Panthers played the match unchanged, but it did not prevent them from creating an amazing sports spectacle. Going to the break after the first quarter with a score of 5: 2 for Katowice, motivated by the coach, the Panthers lost 8:6 in the half. The third quarter ended with a draw 11:11.

Unfortunately, 10 minutes before the end of the game, the legs of two pillars of our team simply refused to obey. After the changes on the pitch carried out by coach Kajor, the girls, despite the cramps and minor injuries, managed to finish the match until the end. One of the leading players of the Panthers and the Polish National Team, Natalia Kolat, made her debut in the attack formation and made it before the last whistle on the list of scorers.

Walkirie Katowice, who played in front of their own audience, increased the pace even more in the last minutes of the game, and the game ended with the score 13:15 for Katowice.

For several Panthers players, the Katowice tournament was a league debut. Despite the far-from-expected result, the players played both games at 110% and they went to the dressing room with their heads held high - we know that in the 2022 season we still have a lot to show! First of all, the long-time player Klaudia Staśkiewicz, who defended with an efficiency of 72%, deserves a lot of applause.

The head coach of the section, Bartosz Kajor summed up the tournament with the following words:

"I am very pleased with the girls, they put their hearts out on the field. I think their game today will fuel the team to continue working on their individual skills. We will continue to try to implement tactical assumptions - both offensive and defensive. I think that these two meetings are, after all, a good omen for the next meetings of the Polish Lacrosse League of Women "

We hope that at home matches in October all injured players will return to support the team and we will record two victories.

Panthers Lacrosse will arrive at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday, October 15th - as part of the Wrocław tournament, we will host Walkirie Katowice and Warriors Września.
