Royal support for the Panthers

Read short interviews with the latest Polish reinforcements in #ThePack2022.

Mateusz Konwent, OL

How did you get to the Panthers? When did you hear about the potential move? How was the conversation with coach Samel? Reveal some backstage of moving to Wrocław.

Mateusz Konwent: I found out about the interest of Panthers in the week before the first team camp for Polish players. Coach Samel contacted me, offered me to come and show up. My priority was to be able to train and finish the season at Kraków Kings. Trainer Samel understands this, so we quickly came to an agreement and what our cooperation would look like. It will be the first such intense season for me. However, I am sure that the possibility of training and playing in Wrocław will also transfer to my better game for Kraków Kings.

Have you had the opportunity to compete with the Panthers? Do you have any memories of the city? The Olympic Stadium?

In the 2020 season, while still playing for KS Bydgoszcz Archers, we competed with Panthers Wrocław twice, at the Olympic Stadium. It was a very good football lesson, to put it mildly. It was the first time I had to face such a strong opponent, but it also motivated me to work even harder. Last year I also had the opportunity to watch a game in the stands as a fan. The meeting and the whole setting made a huge positive impression on me.

Your greatest football achievement? Team and individual?

As a team winning the title of Polish Champion in 2021 with KS Bydgoszcz Archers. In addition, as a position coach of the offensive and defensive line in the junior team, the Polish Championship 2020. Individually, at the end of the season, I was able to receive awards several times in the club from Bydgoszcz.

What do you do besides playing football? What are your hobbies?

On a daily basis, I work in a company dealing with internet sales in Bydgoszcz. After work, you can most often meet me at the gym. When I have a moment of free time, I usually read books.

This will be your first season at the Panthers, so what are your plans? Are you going to prove something?

Training and playing in Wrocław is an amazing sports experience. By joining the team, I  do not want to be the next person in the picture dressed up in a costume, but to really contribute  to the result that the team will achieve this season. Through the way I present myself in training, I hope to get a chance in matches and show what I can do.

Is there a team in the ELF that you are waiting for in particular?

Each one. This will be my first encounter with such high-level football. If I had to choose one team, it would probably be Frankfurt Galaxy due to the fact that they are the current league champions.

Oskar Romaniuk, DL

What is your current timeline in terms of sports? How did you get to the Panthers?

I have been playing football since 2017 and from the very beginning I represent the colors of Kraków Kings. Before football, I trained judo for 16 years.

When it comes to the Panthers, like I said: a phone call from Kuba, an invitation to the camp,  a quick decision. I did not think twice - I like to prove myself and I like new challenges even more.

Your greatest football achievement? Team and individual?

The greatest achievement is the MVP XXL of the 2021 season, I was on the defensive team of 2021 and in Kings I got the Most Improved Player - all in one year. These are my greatest achievements.

Have you had the opportunity to compete with the Panthers? Do you have any memories of the city? The Olympic Stadium?

I have played a few matches with Panthers Wrocław in my career, but it was at the beginning of my football career. They were tough matches, but I learned a lot and I am even more glad that after a few years of playing and the breakthrough season of 2021, I was noticed and invited to play in the Panthers.

What do you do besides playing football? What are your hobbies?

Apart from football, I am very active in sports, I like new challenges and I try new sports all the time - recently I play golf.

This will be your first season at the Panthers, so what are your plans? Are you going to prove something?

My plans for the Panthers are hard work and a constant will to grow. I don't think I will have to prove anything to anyone - I am the right person in the right position.

Is there a team in the ELF that you are waiting for in particular?

There is no team that I would especially like to play with. I like to face the best and win - I have the same respect for each of my rivals.
