Panthers Wrocław just one step away from defeating the European champions
In the last round of the European League of Football, Panthers Wrocław came close to causing a sensation. Despite a clear lead at halftime, the Polish representatives ultimately succumbed to the European champions, the Vienna Vikings, with a score of 21-24 in an away game. In two weeks, the Wrocław team will travel to the capital of the Czech Republic to face the local Prague Lions.

Three points behind the champions

In the seventh round of the European League of Football, Panthers Wrocław traveled to Vienna to take on the leaders of the Eastern Conference, the Vienna Vikings. Both teams faced each other for the first time this season.

The Wrocław team started the game much better. Although the hosts opened the scoring, Panthers Wrocław went into halftime with a 21-10 lead. Dawid Brzozowski, in phenomenal form, scored two touchdowns for the European champions. Daniel Bender added more points by intercepting the ball from the opponents and making a sensational 75-yard rushing touchdown. However, only the Austrians scored in the second half. Led by Mak Sexton – in the absence of Panthers Wrocław's starting quarterback Matthew Vitale – the offense couldn't find an answer to the Vienna Vikings' defense and lost the ball several times to the hosts.

I was proud of the way our team competed versus one of the top teams in the European League of Football. We played very well the first 30 minutes, but it is a 60 minute game and we need to learn how to finish stronger in the second half. We lost the turnover margin for the first time this year, and it was costly. I know this team will take total advantage of the bye week and be ready when we head to Prague – says Dave Christensen, head coach of Panthers Wrocław.

The fight for the playoffs continues

Despite the defeat, Panthers Wrocław still have a very good chance of making it to the playoffs of the European League of Football. Their next game will be played on July 29th at 5:00 PM in the Czech capital. The Prague Lions will be looking to avenge their 23-29 loss to the Polish representatives in their first encounter. The game against the Czech team, like all the other games of the Wrocław team, can be watched on Polsat sports channels and Gamepass.
