This Sunday, the junior team of Panthers Wrocław will open the 2025 season of the Polish Junior Football League. In their first matchup, they will take on the league newcomer, Hunters Tarnów, away from home.
The young Panthers have been waiting nearly 10 months to return to the field. Last season, they claimed the Polish Vice-Championship after going undefeated in the regular season. Their winning streak was only halted in the grand final, where they had to acknowledge the superiority of the Warsaw Mets.
Heading into the new season, Panthers Wrocław are considered the top contender for the Polish junior championship. The experience many of their players have gained in the Polish Football League senior division as well as the European League of Football further strengthens their position. Their first opponent, Hunters Tarnów, will be making their league debut.
“I’ve known Coach Ostręga for several years, and I know he can build a well-playing team. That’s why I expect a valuable matchup to open the season. Our clear advantage is experience; on defense, all our starters have already played as starters in the senior league. At the same time, we know our opponent will be highly motivated to win the very first official game in their history. As always, the field will tell the truth,”
said Przemysław Lewszyk, defensive coordinator of Panthers Juniors.
In the opening game of the 2025 PFL-J season, the Wrocław side will face a club founded in September 2024. It will be Hunters Tarnów’s debut season, making the matchup a true David vs. Goliath clash, as Panthers Wrocław Juniors are the most decorated team in Poland, boasting six national junior championships in American football.
“For several years now, we’ve been starting our season on the road. On one hand, it’s a bit inconvenient, but on the other, it allows us to focus more by eliminating the ‘home distractions.’ The first game of the season is always somewhat unpredictable, especially when playing against a team that didn’t even exist on the football map of Poland until recently. Hunters have an experienced coach, Dawid Ostręga, who already found success with the Kraków Kings junior squad, so we expect a good game,”
added Miłosz Maćków, head coach of Panthers Juniors.
The game will take place at the “Metal” Sports Club stadium in Tarnów. The “Hunters Tailgate Picnic” event will begin at 11:30 AM, with kickoff scheduled for 12:30 PM. A true celebration of American football awaits Tarnów, and Panthers Wrocław fans won’t want to miss it. From the very first game, we fight #TOGETHER for the Polish Championship!
