Derek Rickart joins Panthers Wrocław as DL Coach

Panthers Wrocław have strengthened their coaching staff by appointing Derek Rickart as the new defensive line coach. Rickard is an experienced coach with a strong background, having worked with top football programs in the United States, including Bowling Green State University.

Rickart explains that joining Panthers Wrocław was a natural decision for him. "The Panthers Wrocław is one of the premier organizations in the European League of Football, with a strong culture, passionate fanbase, and a commitment to excellence by the staff and ownership. The opportunity for me to work with a talented roster, be part of a winning program, and contribute to the growth of football in Europe while coaching for a well-respected Head Coach was something I couldn’t pass up."

Experience and Achievements

Rickart built his coaching career at Bowling Green State University, where he contributed to one of the top-ranked defenses in the nation. "I’ve had the privilege of working with great athletes and coaching under top-tier football minds. In my time at Bowling Green State University, I contributed to one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses and helped develop players who have moved on to Power 4 programs and professional opportunities, these are accomplishments I take great pride in,".

His experience as a player and in player development has shaped his coaching approach, which he is eager to bring to Panthers Wrocław.

Expectations for the Defensive Line

Every new role comes with challenges, but Rickart views them as opportunities for growth. "Every new role presents challenges, but I see them as opportunities. Adapting to a different league will take work, but I already know the talent is here. My expectations for the DL are clear: relentless effort, discipline, and a mindset that we control the game on every snap. I want them to play disciplined, violent, and confident."

On the field, Rickart aims for his unit to be aggressive, disciplined, and dominant.

Building Trust and Communication

Trust and communication are key components of Rickart’s coaching philosophy. "Trust starts with consistency and honesty. I want my guys to know that I’m here to help them succeed and be the best versions of themselves. Communication is the building block for everything. I’ll be direct, detail-oriented, and open to player-coach dialogue. The more we invest in each other, the stronger our unit will be."

Challenges in the New Role

Rickart acknowledges that getting accustomed to European football and optimizing the defensive line's performance will require time and effort. "Getting familiar with the European game and fine-tuning our defensive line’s performance will take some time, but that’s part of the process. I’m very confident in the talent we have, and I’m excited to work with the players to build a unit that can dominate together. It’s all about putting in the work and staying focused, and I have no doubt we’ll get there."
