A young Panthers Wrocław roster returned to competition in the Polish Football League in spectacular fashion after nearly a four-week break. In an incredibly tight and thrilling match, the Wrocław team defeated Armia Poznań on the road, 27–23.
“The Panthers” Triumph in a Thriller!
What a game, what emotions. Fans gathered at Golęcin Stadium in Poznań, as well as those watching from home, surely have no regrets about witnessing this matchup. From start to finish, the contest between Panthers Wrocław and Armia Poznań was fiercely competitive. The hosts struck first, but with each passing minute, the Wrocław side began to seize control. On the strength of passing touchdowns by running back Jan Wroński and wide receiver Tomasz Burdziński, the Panthers took a 14–10 lead into halftime.
Early in the third quarter, quarterback Joshua Cartwright extended the margin to 11 points with a breakaway run. Despite a slow start to the second half, Armia’s offense—led by the very experienced Polish quarterback Witold Gajewski—was not ready to give up. After some spectacular plays, Armia closed to within four points. The hosts believed they could win this game, but very quickly, Cartwright added the next points for the Panthers. Armia responded once more with a touchdown, then decided to attempt an onside kick. It paid off perfectly: they recovered the ball and, with a last-minute play, could have swung the outcome in their favor. However, the final word belonged to the Panthers’ defense. The unit coached by Przemysław Lewszyk, despite immense pressure, stood tall, stopping Armia’s offense just short of the end zone and thereby securing the team’s third victory of the 2025 season. Thanks to this win, the young Panthers Wrocław squad climbed to third place in the Southern Group and took a significant step toward the playoff phase.
“Of course, we’re pleased to have won with a young roster, and we’re proud of how our defense managed to shut down the game under pressure. Offensively, we had many good moments, especially in the running game. But right now, our focus shifts to Silesia Rebels Katowice,” commented Jakub Samel, head coach of Panthers Wrocław.
