Nigerian offensive lineman Amos Laoye joins Panthers Wrocław.
Measuring nearly two meters and weighing 146 kg, this offensive lineman debuted in American football at age 16 in Brussels. Subsequently, at age 18, he transitioned to the GFL 1 (representing clubs including the New Yorker Lions) and competed there until last season, when he joined the Fehervar Enthroners in the ELF. His athletic background was originally in water polo, which he practiced until a school friend encouraged him to take up football.
How would you describe your playing style to someone who has never seen you on the field? What is your biggest weapon that AFLE rivals should be afraid of?
I would describe my playing style as entertaining to watch and I would say my biggest weapon is my will to throw anyone i come in contact with to the ground.
You’ve played for the New Yorker Lions in the GFL and the Fehérvár Enthroners in the ELF. In your opinion, what are the biggest differences—both athletically and organizationally—between a top-tier national league and international European competition?
The biggest difference to me would be the coaching (you get more experienced coaching) and the travelling (travel times are way longer).
You participated in the NFL International Combine in London. What was it like being tested by scouts from the best league in the world, and which of the drills was the biggest challenge for you?
Oh it was an awesome experience i got to live but unfortunately I didn’t make it to the next phase, I thought the biggest challenge for me was going to be the 40 because I didn’t practice it a lot but I ended up doing a 5.1 so I guess it turned out well.
If you had to point out one specific thing you worked on the hardest after returning from the Combine to get closer to the NFL level, what would it be?
Hand placements and technique. We had a little clinic with Lecharles Bentley and he pointed out those errors to me so i’ve been working on those.
What was the deciding factor in your choice to sign with the Panthers? Was it the coach's vision, or perhaps the reputation of the Wrocław organization within Europe?
I chose to come after i had a phone call with my old coach (Troy Tomlin) and I already knew and heard good things about the panthers way before they were in the ELF or AFLE so that also played a role in my decision making.
What is your personal goal for this year in the Panthers' colors? Are you focused on your individual stats, or is your sole priority winning the AFLE Championship?
My personal goals this season are (in no specific order): get us 2k rushing yards, keep a clean sheet, make my teammates better, keep my QB clean and get to the championship.
