The Panthers Wrocław roster for the 2026 Polish Football League season continues to grow stronger. This time, the team has been bolstered by American defender Willie Stricklin.
He began his collegiate career at San Diego State University. For three years, he gained experience under the guidance of top American coaches before transferring to Waldorf University for two years. His standout performance in the collegiate league earned him an invitation to the FCS Bowl, which opened doors for discussions with professional league scouts. Following that game, he participated in two CFL combines with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
As he recalls, he deeply values each of these experiences. They allowed him to see the progress he has made and highlighted the areas he still needs to work on to further refine his game.
What made you choose Panthers Wrocław, and what has impressed you the most about this organization so far?
The coaching staff had a big impact on my decision to make the trip over the pond. We have a couple of legends in the making behind the play calls. The amazing city and culture combined with the fanbase made the offer irresistible. It really seems like I’ve made the right choice. The coaching staff and everyone else in the office have been so productive in this transition.
How would you describe your playing style to someone who has never seen you on the field?
I’d have to say that most people would identify me as an enforcer. I definitely like to fly around the field with malicious intent.
You’ve spent your entire career so far in the United States. What are your expectations for playing in Europe?
Yes, I have spent my entire career in the U.S. I watched a few games of the league last year and I’m excited to compete at the professional level.
Had you heard much about Poland before signing your contract with the Panthers?
Funny enough Yes. One of my closest friends is from Poland. He is actually one of the major contributors to my interest in the league.
What individual goals have you set for yourself for the 2026 season?
My goals for the year are to make a difference for the defensive side of the ball. I want to be placed within the top 3 turnover contributors.
You made your kickboxing debut last year. Where did the idea for that come from, and how do you think your experience in that sport can help you on the football field?
I felt the need to stay within the realm of contact sports. I had a coworker that was a professional fighter that mentioned it and the rest is history. The two sports are definitely two different beasts. There are a few traits that I believe will translate to the field. The ability to take or give contact without blinking is something that is extremely important in both sports. The ability to manipulate your body position to be in the most optimal place to make contact will undoubtedly help out. Lastly, the ability to read tendencies will help my game out on the field.
What message would you like to send to Panthers Nation ahead of the new season?
Come out and watch your Panthers go to war between the pylons.
