In the opening game, in front of their own audience, the inhabitants of Wrocław defeated the vice-champions of Europe - Hamburg Sea Devils 34:25. Thus, the representatives of Poland took the lead in the Eastern Conference of the European league.
Panthers Wrocław inaugurated this year's season of the European League of Football at the Olympic Stadium with an extremely interesting meeting with the Hamburg Sea Devils. Games between teams from Wrocław and Hamburg are always associated with a fight to the last seconds and unexpected outcomes.
It was no different this time. The meeting was fierce, although it was the players from Wrocław who controlled its course. The star of the meeting was undisputedly Tony Tate - the American Panthers Wrocław wide receiver, who scored three touchdowns during the game. The quarterback of the Wrocław team, Matthew Vitale, also showed his great side.
– It was an amazing spectacle. Our head coach - Dave Christensen showed with this meeting that he knows what he's doing. Our whole team presented itself from an excellent side - despite the tough attitude of the team from Hamburg. Now we are back to work so that our next meetings will be the same! – says Michał Latoś, president of Panthers Wrocław.
– Our team played exceptionally physical and fought hard until the final whistle. Anytime you win the turnover margin and only have 15 penalty yards, you have a chance to win. Now it’s time to move on to Leipzig – says Dave Christensen, head coach of Panthers Wrocław.
