Panthers Wrocław fell to the Vienna Vikings
in The League Europe final. In the deciding match in Duisburg, the Wrocław side
had to acknowledge the superiority of the Austrian representatives, losing
5-68.
The Panthers started the game well.
Quarterback Jameson Wang distributed the ball efficiently with passes, allowing
the team to effectively move up the field. The situation grew complicated in
the opponent's territory, where the ball was intercepted after being popped up
by Mike Harley Jr. From that moment on, the Panthers' position deteriorated
with every possession. The Vienna team delivered a near-perfect performance in
both offense and defense. Ben Holmes, who was later named MVP of the game,
finished with six touchdowns, while the Vikings' defense recorded as many as 5
interceptions.
The only points for the Wrocław team were
scored by Jakub Ciurkot, who successfully kicked a 3-point field goal, and
Maciej Jabłoński, who made it into the end zone following a blocked extra point
try.
„After a great season that saw us win 11 games, defeat every team in our league, and reach the Gold Bowl Championship Game of the AFLE, we played poorly and suffered a hard defeat against a Vienna Vikings team that had the best roster of any team I have ever seen in Europe. My respect goes out to the coaches and players of the Vikings. We had a very bad first quarter with 4 turnovers that were turned into scores. We were not able to find any rhythm on either offense or defense. It was a sad ending to a great season with a great group of players. While I am, of course, disappointed with yesterday's loss, I am VERY proud of this team. These men shared great chemistry and showed toughness and effort throughout the season. I want to thank the members of our squad for a truly outstanding year. RAZEM!“ - comments Dave Likins, head coach
of Panthers Wrocław.
„This is definitely not how we imagined the
most important game of the season. From the beginning, our opponents
meticulously capitalized on even our smallest mistakes and rightfully claimed
victory. We really wanted to win, but on that day, nothing worked for us - both
in offense and defense. Despite this loss, looking at the course of the entire
competition, we can be proud of ourselves. Over the season, we defeated every
team in the league. We were also the only ones to beat the Vikings -
unfortunately, not today. We want to thank all the fans for the incredible
support you gave us in the final and throughout the past months. See you next
year!“- adds Jakub Ciurkot, kicker for Panthers Wrocław.
End of the Season
The final game concluded Panthers Wrocław's
campaign in the AFLE 2026 season. The Wrocław team wraps up this year's
competition with the title of The League Europe runner-up.
Huge thanks go out to the Tarczyński family,
without whose support competing against the best teams in Europe would not have
been possible, as well as to the fans, whose support accompanied the team at
every home and away game.
